Yahoo, it’s recognition time!!! Time to recognize those caches, and cachers who have made geocaching in the NoVAGO area a rewarding experience. The NoVAGO 2008 Cache Awards Program is now accepting nominations in the following categories: Best Theme/Series Best Kids’ Cache Best Location Best Hike Best History-Related Cache Best Multi-Stage Best Mystery/Puzzle Best Cache (or Series) Outside NoVa Most Creative Cache Most Challenging-to-Find Cache Best Picture in 2008 posted to a cache log Best Log in 2008 on a Cache Cache of Year Rookie of the Year (any cacher that found their first cache after August 1st, 2007) Cacher of the Year Nominations will close on 15 March, and actual voting will commence on or about 16 March. Do you like to meet interesting, like minded, friendly people? How about good food…do you like good food? Then GC1KZYG “Over the Hump – Once Again” is an Event you should really enjoy. It takes place on 11 Feb 09, starting at 6:30PM at the Fuddruckers in Annandale. (Thanks to D&C for reviving this one). Now…if you do not like people or food, but you do like books…then take a gander at GC1KR68 “Well Would You Look At That?”. It”s a month long 2-28 Feb 09 Geocaching Display, constructed by NetworkCacher for NoVAGO, in the Kings Park Library, Fairfax County, Burke, VA. This one will do much to educate the public about geocaching, and will also increase awareness of the pastime as legitimate recreational activity. What a fantastic idea!!

Ravenquest Geocaching Presentation a wild success!

Three NoVAGO cachers cphug, blrkt, and Buglady1 all met at Lake Fairfax Park to give a presentation on geocaching to 29 campers for Ravenquest. This camp aims at providing new discoveries to disadvantaged youth between 12 – 15 years of age. Five cache boxes were placed around the park filled with ingredients for Smores. The 3 volunteer cachers gave a presentation about geocaching and how the game works then took the groups out on a real cache hunt to find the boxes. A great time was had by all! Special thanks to our contact Chris Goldbecker who coordinated the early communication and set up support. Thanks also to TooWheelin & Rufnredy for passing this great volunteering opportunity to NoVAGO members. Pix will be posted when Buglady1 can figure out where to upload…stay tuned..

Swelter at the Shelter Event & Silent Auction

The NoVAGO Swelter at the Shelter Summer Event is fast approaching, 20 July 08 is right around the corner and will be here before you know it. The event promises to be a “doozie” as all NoVAGO events are; plenty of caches to hunt, great food, super people, a raffle, and back by popular demand…our NoVAGO Annual Silent Auction. Please indicate your attendance and whatever potluck food item you may be bringing on the event page The Silent Auction catalog (it will be updated as additional item donations are received) can be found in the NoVAGO forums. The Silent Auction is the only method NoVAGO uses to generate funds to operate for the coming year. TEAM WEATHERGIRL – What a great caching bunch! Tell us about your caching name. I work in the weather business bouncing between the National Weather Service and managing weather satellite development programs. My daughter got enamored with weather and picked up the nickname of “Weathergirl” at a young age. Weathergirl has four brothers and being the only girl is not always easy. Since she was the most enthusiastic about geocaching when we started, we went with her nickname. In a way it helps her stand out from the male dominated crowd she lives with. Tell us about the members of Team Weathergirl and what each one of you brings to the caching experience. Our youngest cacher’s nickname is Mr. O.
