This Sunday: Fantastic Fall Fun!

This weekend, join us at Providence Park in Fairfax for NoVAGO’s Fall Event: Hauntingly Familiar! Sunday, October 25, 2015, 11 am – 3pm. We’ll start the day off with casual Halloween-themed games and a brand new icebreaker. While you enjoy a picnic lunch, browse the items available in our Silent Auction and Pick-a-Prize. Then, try your luck at Mischievous Ducks or the Cache Packing Challenge. And for those truly brave souls, wear your best costume to the event and be judged by your fellow NoVAGO cachers. Costumes will be judged in three categories: Best Adult Costume, Best Kids Costume, and Best Geocaching-Themed Costume. Winners will each receive a Halloween caching prize. Winners of all prizes and auction items will be announced at the end of the event. Please consider bringing a dish, dessert, or drinks to share at the picnic lunch. Summer in the Blue Ridge

Looking for a fun way to spend this weekend? Join us for a summer weekend in the mountains! NoVAGO is returning to the beautiful Blue Ridge Environmental Center. Trails, lakes, mountains, food, friends, and goats. What else does your summer need? The weekend kicks off with our annual Picnic: GC5Y257. Come, meet caching friends old and new, and enjoy a delicious potluck lunch. There are almost 30 caches hidden within BREC’s nearly 900 acres, so after lunch you can enjoy time relaxing in Demory Field with friends or go caching while exploring the hiking trails though the woods, babbling streams, wildflower meadows and historic farmsteads. We will have our pavilion the entire afternoon as the fun doesn’t end at the conclusion of the picnic. Appalachian Trail Conservancy Biennial Conference

In July, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy will host the 2015 ATC Biennial Meeting, and NoVAGO has been asked to assist. We’ve been tasked with presenting a Geocaching workshop and later leading a Geocaching excursion. We’re looking for your help! Appalachian Trail Conservancy 2015 Biennial Meeting Shenandoah University, Winchester, VASunday, July 19, 2015NoVAGO’s presentation begins at 8:00 am On Sunday morning, July 19th, NoVAGO will present Geocaching Down (and Around) the Appalachian Trail, a workshop designed to introduce participants to the basics of Geocaching. Later in the afternoon, we’ll travel to the Third Winchester Battlefield for a Geocaching Excursion. NoVAGO had a great showing at GeoWoodstock XIII in Boonsboro, MD. In addition to several members’ participation on the planning committees, we executed a joint Cache In, Trash Out (CITO) event with the Maryland Geocaching Society (MGS), attended by well over 300 cachers. NoVAGO is Headed South for Winter!

The temperatures have plummeted and snow is on the ground.  For many, the current weather might make caching outdoors seem improbable, but don’t despair!  NoVAGO has a perfect fix for that caching cabin fever.   Come join us this coming Saturday, February 21st for our annual Winter Event. NoVAGO is Headed South for Winter (GC5K00D), so we can guarantee the temperature will be warm and the surroundings dry.   Thanks to our friends in RAG (Rappahannock Area Geocachers), Porter Branch Library in Stafford will host us for a morning of socialization, presentations and activities.  Meet friends new and old over coffee and assorted snacks.  Brush up on your cache hiding skills or learn how to keep the authorities at bay from talks such as Take Pride in your Hide or Blown Away: Avoiding the Bomb Squad. To add to the fun, join in on interactive sessions. Or maybe one that tested your physical limits? Was it a traditional? A well thought-out multi? An amazing puzzle? Gather all those memorable caches and nominate them for the 2014 NoVAGO Cache Awards!
