Caching the Capital Region and Beyond Adventure Lab

Since 2006 the Northern Virginia Geocaching Organization has had “Caching the Capital Region and Beyond” in our crest. NoVAGO was recently awarded 10 new Adventure Labs and has opted to place them around the District of Columbia. With this latest Adventure Lab we strive to take cachers into the District to show off a few things they may have missed during past visits. During a test run of these we found that grabbing most of these easily done by those red DC Bikeshare bicycles.  None of these 10 labs require admission fees, security check points, or to go inside any buildings.  Only three of these are not available 24/7 and you can find those posted hours on the lab pages. NoVAGO want’s our community to cache with confidence and has permission for all virtual placements. And the 2018 Cache Awards Winners are…

Despite the rain many NoVAGO members flocked to Sundays Yo Momma Says Clean Up Moore CITO at Claude Moore Park and NoVAGO 2019 Evento de Primavera del Cinco de Mayo Spring event and 2018 Awards Ceremony. Many thanks to the dedicated geocachers who showed up in rain gear to slosh around the park cleaning and to everyone who participated in our annual picnic festivities.  We had 50 names signed on today’s picnic log, but I guarantee there was more than that number of folks crowded under that little pavilion.  Also a special shout out to grill master DePhogration who battled the soggy downpours by fabricating umbrella stands to keep the flames hot and our burgers dry.  After we ring out our clothes and dry off we look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall! Congratulations to the 2018 NoVAGO CACHE AWARD WINNERS: Best Traditional Four Numbers by rlobecker Best … Continue reading

Introducing “NoVAGO gets Gung Ho at National Museum of the USMC” Adventure Lab

NoVAGO and The National Museum of the Marine Corps invites you to explore roughly 200 years of USMC history by teaming up and creating the new Adventure Lab When Groundspeak released a limited number of Geocaching Adventure Lab credits to various geocaching organizations around the world NoVAGO was lucky enough to have been chosen. These new adventures are similar to the “lab caches” available at megas but will be in place for a much longer time, perhaps even permanently. The National Museum of the Marine Corps is a lasting tribute to U.S. Marines–past, present, and future.  You can only access the museum during normal open hours and admission is free. Also if you locate and correctly answer all 10 questions you will also receive coordinates for the mystery cache “Oorah! USMC Adventure Lab BONUS!” which is placed nearby in a Prince William County Park with permission. … Continue reading

Hide a cache: NoVAGO’s Annual Series

Have you always wanted to be a part of hiding caches in NoVAGO’s annual series? Not sure who to ask or where to start? Now’s the time to raise your hand and show your interest. We’ve developed a survey for interested COs to submit their cache ideas. What do you need to know? The D/T ratings for these caches will be no higher than 2/2 to reach broadly across the caching community. Each cache page will include a description that highlights the area, focusing on history and/or places of interest. The page should include links to at least three additional caches that could interest a visiting cacher. NoVAGO will review the proposals and select the cache for each area. NoVAGO will initially publish the caches and will adopt them back to their creators by the end of 2019. Our expectation is all of the 2019 caches will be available through … Continue reading

Upgrade available for cachetur.no

Introducing cache-turminator.no Cachetur.no is a powerful trip-routing tool that has taken off in the caching world. However once all those caches are loaded up the challenge can be having enough time to stop and find them. Problem solved: announcing cache-turminator.no! With cache-turminator, load up all the caches on your route as usual, and then hop in the car. Cache-turminator will *automatically* log caches for you as you drive by! Using a comprehensive data catalog of cache details gleaned from a platoon of log-reading web robots, an advanced log-writing algorithm will piece together and post clever no-signature found-it logs at a pace mere humans only dream of. Example logs: “got the bison in the tree, forgot a pen, tftc”; “log too wet to write on”; “saw it but couldn’t reach it”. The cache-turminator database also includes pictures of the cache containers so you have the option to post “photo” logs. How … Continue reading
