President’s Favorite Points ❤️

What’s been happening around NoVA? We all have seen those big yellow buses on the road and kiddies with backpacks and lunch boxes crowded on the corners.  That’s because it’s September and school is back in session. Seems too early doesn’t it?   Even though the last few days have been the hottest of the year, Summer is quickly ending.  We all know that the end of Summer turns into Autumn!  Seasonal events & activities are happenings all around & geocachers who have been waiting for the green to fade away, can hit the trail soon.   Autumn is also an exciting time of the year for NoVAGO.  The fall picnic is right around the corner; October 22, 2023.  This year’s picnic will be located at Laurel Hill Park Central Green, Pavilion B, Lorton VA  11AM – 2PM.  Event Cache – GCABN9Y; 2023 NoVAGO Fall Event: Laurel Hill Central Green.  A big … Continue reading

2023 NoVAGO Fall Picnic & Auction

2023 Fall Picnic Image

All are invited to the 2023 NoVAGO Fall Picnic! Our fall picnic is an annual event hosted by the board members of the Northern Virginia Geocaching Organization. We will have grills going and will provide hot dogs and hamburgers and members will bring their favorite potluck-style sides to share. Please log your “Will Attend” on the official event page at least a few days before so that we know how much meats to purchase. In your log, you might want to mention what food you are bringing, just so we don’t end up with two dozen types of potato salad. In addition to food and conversation, participants will have the opportunity to bid on donated auction items. You can find a link to the cache event page here. Who is the picnic for? The event is open to everyone interested in geocaching. While most in attendance will be locals from … Continue reading

The 2022 NoVAGO Fall Picnic & Auction was held last weekend on October 22, 2022 at Claude Moore Park in Sterling. It was a Community Celebration Event (extended due to the pandemic.) The weather was perfect for the event and a good time was had by all. Three new Adventure Labs popped in the park during the event: NOVAGO PAST – History of the Organization, by TrexM8s, a tribute to those before us. NOVAGO NOW, by ThompsonKickers, a wonderful introduction to the organization, playable all around its geographic range. NOVAGO FUTURE – Geocaching in the Space Age, by MrPsyduck, a fun, kid-friendly, fictional tour of the nearby museum grounds with future geocacher, Elroy Jetson in 2062. An easy puzzle cache, NOVAGO 2022 Fall Picnic Icebreaker, published in the park towards the end of the event. Those that completed the fun icebreaker activity got to skip the puzzle and find the cache … Continue reading

Hauntingly Familiar Fall Event Was a Spooktacular Success

The last big event of 2017 is over.  The weather was a perfect 70 degrees, the food was plentiful, and plenty of smiles filled the pavilion. Other than the swarm of uninvited yellow jackets everything else was about perfect. The NoVAGO Lab Cache experience was a huge hit with the attendees, as well was the long awaited return of the event Icebreaker. “Until now, I hadn’t really cared for the Lab Caches but I think NoVAGO did them right!” wrote JPWAVE “Nice job!! Really enjoyed the “NoVAGO Graveyard: Tombstones” Lab Cache!!” “Loved all the lab caches but the cool thing I loved most was the ice breaker game turned into coordinated for it’s own cache! Nothing in the world better than that!” wrote Sassyinmyheart “AND it gets you to meet all the new faces and see some accomplishments that old faces have conquered!” The pavilion emptied out for geocaching … Continue reading
