OptOutside with NoVAGO and Burke Lake Park

Burke Lake Park has reached out to NoVAGO to lend a hand with their annual Geocaching Scavenger Hunt on the day after Thanksgiving. This one-day event, in conjunction with REI, Inc.’s Black Friday #OptOutside promotion, and it will be held from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2017.   For this event only, special caches are placed around the lake. Find them all and win a prize. It’s a fun way to get outside during the holiday. While you are at the park, take advantage of the site to do some hiking, biking, picnicking or fishing. Burke Lake Park also has a disc golf course along with its playgrounds and miles of trails.   No pre-registration is required for the geocaching scavenger hunt. Hauntingly Familiar Fall Event Was a Spooktacular Success

  The last big event of 2017 is over.  The weather was a perfect 70 degrees, the food was plentiful, and plenty of smiles filled the pavilion. Other than the swarm of uninvited yellow jackets everything else was about perfect. The NoVAGO Lab Cache experience was a huge hit with the attendees, as well was the long awaited return of the event Icebreaker. “Until now, I hadn’t really cared for the Lab Caches but I think NoVAGO did them right!” wrote JPWAVE “Nice job!! NoVAGO’s 3rd Annual Hauntingly Familiar Fall Event

Summer has passed and fall is on the way. Come and help us celebrate the turning of the seasons by attending NoVAGO’s last major event of 2017. This year’s event will again be held with a Halloween theme.  Attendees are encouraged to come in costume to celebrate the season. Be sure to log your “will-attend” as early as possible to ensure that we have enough food for the masses.  Attendees are encouraged to bring your favorite pot luck dish, all we ask is that you list what you are bringing in your “will attend” log so that others won’t bring in a similar dish.  As with all of our picnics NoVAGO will be supplying the charcoal, hamburgers, hot dogs, plates, and condiments. There are a lot of them out there. These pesky little devils seem to get filed in one of two places by most cachers. There are them that loves ’em and them that hates ’em. NoVAGO Celebrates CITO Week with Multiple Fall Events

On Saturday, October 1st 2017 join the NoVAGO for our Fall CITO at Burke Lake Park. This is a popular place for hiking and families with some of the best trails around including a scenic 4.78-mile fitness/biking/hiking trail which loops around the 218-acre lake. It is also home to one of Virginia’s oldest active geocaches! This is an excellent opportunity to give back to Mother Earth by picking up trash and helping with trail maintenance at this great Virginia park all while earning the exclusive CITO 2017 souvenir. The normal $10 per day Park fee for noncounty residents will be waived by the Park for all CITO participants. NoVAGO’s 3rd Annual Hauntingly Familiar Fall Event October 28th is is quickly approaching and with that comes our annual Fall Event and Auction.  This auction is what sets up NoVAGO’s operating budget for the following year.  Please remember that donations benefit NoVAGO directly. This is NoVAGO’s primary fund raiser, and it allows us to pay for CITO materials, event pavilion rentals, and furnish the burgers, dogs, and sausages for each of our seasonal events, and covers our web hosting fees. Scotts Run CITO a Success!

This Sunday: Fantastic Fall Fun!

This weekend, join us at Providence Park in Fairfax for NoVAGO’s Fall Event: Hauntingly Familiar! Sunday, October 25, 2015, 11 am – 3pm. We’ll start the day off with casual Halloween-themed games and a brand new icebreaker. While you enjoy a picnic lunch, browse the items available in our Silent Auction and Pick-a-Prize. Then, try your luck at Mischievous Ducks or the Cache Packing Challenge. And for those truly brave souls, wear your best costume to the event and be judged by your fellow NoVAGO cachers. Costumes will be judged in three categories: Best Adult Costume, Best Kids Costume, and Best Geocaching-Themed Costume. Winners will each receive a Halloween caching prize.
