Northern Virginia Geocaching Organization invites you to join our spring picnic. In addition to eating burgers, hot dogs, and potluck sides, there will lots of opportunities to meet nice folks and trade geocaching stories. NoVAGO is again proud to partner with Prince William Soil & Water Conservation District in our ongoing partnership to keep VA parks clean. Join us March 5, 2022 for our Winter CITO and help us clean up the Neabsco Creek area near Eagles Park. Cleanup Supplies will be provided. Dress well for the weather and put on boots. For you Souvenir hounds out there this fits right in for you to earn your CITO Season 1 souvenir. CITO Season one starts Monday, March 1 and goes through Tuesday, August 31, 2021. A Time to Give Thanks!

NoVAGO turns 15 this year and to celebrate we will be kicking off the year with our traditional Thanks Event!   This year we are back at Santini’s New York Style Deli in Chantilly. “Trails at the MSV Geotrail” Coming To Northern Virginia June 5

A new 12 cache geotrail is being launched in Winchester on June 5, 2021 at 10:30 am. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley has preserved 90 acres of the largest green space in the city of Winchester and it is open to the public year-round.  The MSV has more than three miles of trails for walking, running, and biking that will take cachers through fields, woods, and wetlands. Those who find them all will have an opportunity to be among the first to earn a commemorative geocoin created specifically for this collection of traditional caches.  Access to the Trails at the MSV is free. And the 2020 Cache Awards Winners are…

After having to skip our annual event last year due to COVID-19, on May 8, 2021 NoVAGO members flocked to Saturday’s NoVAGO’s 2021 Spring Picnic and Awards Event in Purceville, VA. Held in the Hillsboro Pavilion. The winds were whipping, so throughout the day it was common to see bug gust blow away Icebreaker sheets, plates, donuts, and hamburger buns.  Folks opted to stand in the sun for warmth, but than rushed back under the pavilion to shelter from the snow flurries and rain that popped up near the end. Many thanks to the dedicated geocachers who participated setting up our annual picnic festivities, and those who stayed to clean up afterwards.  We had over 30 names signed on today’s picnic log, but folks remembered to social distance and not crowd in.  Also a special shout out to grill master DePhogration who again kept the flames hot, and kept the … Continue reading →

NoVAGO Spring CITO – Neabsco Style was a Success!

On Saturday March 13 the Prince William Trails & Streams Coalition held a clean up at Neabsco Creek. NoVAGO partnered up and hosted our NoVAGO Spring CITO – Neabsco Style to help out. All curious and avid NoVAGO cachers (that’s you!) are encouraged to visit as many of the nominated caches as possible before voting.  Here is a bookmark list of the nominated caches. Go get ’em!   Despite the rain many NoVAGO members flocked to Sundays Yo Momma Says Clean Up Moore CITO at Claude Moore Park and NoVAGO 2019 Evento de Primavera del Cinco de Mayo Spring event and 2018 Awards Ceremony. Many thanks to the dedicated geocachers who showed up in rain gear to slosh around the park cleaning and to everyone who participated in our annual picnic festivities.  We had 50 names signed on today’s picnic log, but I guarantee there was more than that number of folks crowded under that little pavilion.  Also a special shout out to grill master DePhogration who battled the soggy downpours by fabricating umbrella stands to keep the flames hot and our burgers dry.  After we ring out our clothes and dry off we look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall!
