A Time to Give Thanks!

NoVAGO turns 15 this year and to celebrate we will be kicking off the year with our traditional Thanks Event!   This year we are back at Santini’s New York Style Deli in Chantilly. Please join us to thank all of the amazing volunteers, cache placers, and event holders who helped make geocaching in Northern Virginia more fun in 2021 and to welcome in the 2022 volunteers. “Trails at the MSV Geotrail” Coming To Northern Virginia June 5

A new 12 cache geotrail is being launched in Winchester on June 5, 2021 at 10:30 am. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley has preserved 90 acres of the largest green space in the city of Winchester and it is open to the public year-round.  The MSV has more than three miles of trails for walking, running, and biking that will take cachers through fields, woods, and wetlands. Those who find them all will have an opportunity to be among the first to earn a commemorative geocoin created specifically for this collection of traditional caches.  Access to the Trails at the MSV is free. NoVAGO’s 2019 Geocache Awards Each year NoVAGO honors some of the best caches that were placed in Northern Virginia. Cache nominations and awards are a chance for you to recognize the efforts of fellow NoVAGO cachers who have placed hides that you have enjoyed. Please consider sending in nominations, we need your input This year, we’re starting early. From now until (date to be announced) we will be taking nominations for the categories below (see this post for a description of categories). After the nomination period ends, the list of nominated caches and cachers will be consolidated into a ballot and be voted on by all NoVAGO members. That’s right, even if you didn’t submit nominations, you are encouraged to come vote. Winners will be announced at NoVAGO’s 2020 Spring Event, date TBD. Hide a cache: NoVAGO’s Annual Series

Have you always wanted to be a part of hiding caches in NoVAGO’s annual series? Not sure who to ask or where to start? Now’s the time to raise your hand and show your interest. We’ve developed a survey for interested COs to submit their cache ideas. What do you need to know? The D/T ratings for these caches will be no higher than 2/2 to reach broadly across the caching community. Each cache page will include a description that highlights the area, focusing on history and/or places of interest. The page should include links to at least three additional caches that could interest a visiting cacher. NoVAGO will review the proposals and select the cache for each area.
