Theme: 20 Years of Gifts This post will be updated throughout the series. It’s NoVAGO’s 20th Anniversary! To celebrate, this year’s series — “20 Years of Gifts” — will be a showering of presents from the region’s most esteemed hiders, commemorating our organization’s past, present and future.  Team sedor18 is putting together this special geocaching run from September 2026 through January 2027. Reach out if you are interested in placing or hosting an event! How do we celebrate anniversaries? With gifts, of course. Caches will be placed representing the yearly anniversary gift — drawn from the Traditional, Modern, Flower, or Gem gift lists. 2024 Series, NOVACON, kicks off!

On August 24th, 2024, NoVAGO kicked off its annual series at two well attended events. This year’s theme is convention fun, hence the name, NOVACON. After a teaser at the spring picnic, contestants picked up badges and found out what team they were randomly assigned to. Players had the opportunity to earn their first points in the game by attending in costume, bringing along a home-made prop, or by showing off their themed tats (fake or real.) The official 2024 NOVACON coin was debuted during the two events and were made available for sale. Purchase of the coins supports expenses of running the series. If you missed out on the chance, they will be at future NOVACON events. Annual Series Wraps up with Awards Event This year our theme has been cheesy movies. We’ve named it Moviepalooza. Pre-selected members of NoVAGO have been busy hiding geocaches around the area since early October. Let’s call them the producers. The rest of us have been searching and (hopefully) finding all these great caches. We can call ourselves the audience. As the series comes to an end, lets get the audience together to give the producers an applause. There just might be some recognitions to give out for the audience members as well. We are half way through the roll out of the 2023 Northern Virginia geocache series, Mooviepalooza. First event in the 2022 NOVAGO U series was published earlier this week for the three teams to start competing. There was a fair bit of coordinating needed to get the maximum number of team members into the final photo. Submissions came in just under the deadline, with team DNF holding off until the very last few minutes. Team PAF had 14 team mates in their photos. Team DNF had 13 team mates in their photos. NoVAGO Kicks off 2022 Annual Series with Two Events Students Start Registering for Classes NoVAGO University is this year’s theme for our friendly, team oriented, geocaching games. Teams started forming as early as 9:30am on Sunday, August 14th at a kick-off event in Sterling, VA. A second event was held later in the day in Lorton. Geocachers who attended the events were asked if they wanted to join one of three Greek houses to make college life a bit more fun for the next several months. Choices were PAF, DNF, and GPS. Some noted that there wasn’t a team FTF, which would have been their first choice. While others felt that that DNF might stand for ‘Driver, Navigator, and Finder’ which sounds like a great choice, too. House DNF. Northern Virginia Geocaching Organizing Announces its 2022 Fall Series: NoVAGO-University Join a team! Find geocaches! Compete in fun contests to earn points for your team. Members might remember our club’s Survivor series, or our more recent pandemic boredom busting Olympics. The newest games are a college themed challenges, where members compete to earn point for their Greek house (toga’s may or may not be optional.) Cache Across Northern Virginia Series & Coin

NoVAGO is offering up the chance to see some of the more unusual sites in the area over the course of the next few months while working towards a Cache Across Northern Virginia coin.  The first cache can be found at Paxton Manor near Leesburg, VA. Details: The cost of the coin is $15.  As part of this 2020 NoVAGO series, you can earn $.50 off the cost of a ‘Cache Across Northern Virginia’ coin for each cache you find. Take note of the code provided in each as proof. To claim your coin you will need to send a list including the cache name with the date found and the associated code word to: officers@novago.org. Hide a cache: NoVAGO’s Annual Series

Have you always wanted to be a part of hiding caches in NoVAGO’s annual series? Not sure who to ask or where to start? Now’s the time to raise your hand and show your interest. We’ve developed a survey for interested COs to submit their cache ideas. What do you need to know? The D/T ratings for these caches will be no higher than 2/2 to reach broadly across the caching community. Each cache page will include a description that highlights the area, focusing on history and/or places of interest. The page should include links to at least three additional caches that could interest a visiting cacher. NoVAGO will review the proposals and select the cache for each area.
