CITO stands for Cache In Trash Out. It’s the geocacher’s approach to keeping our game board (i.e. the entire planet) in great shape. Geocachers gather together to pick up trash, remove invasive species, repair trails and more! Each CITO we attend is a testament to care: care for others, our communities, and our planet. Also all geocachers who participate in a CITO between September 1st to November 30th will earn a pretty sweet new souvenir!
September 4, 2023 – Picky’s Second Smashy CITO: Labor Day Decimation
Herndon
Picky’s Second Smashy CITO: Labor Day Decimation will be held in the area around a parking lot. You may want to venture into the woods a bit, too. This would be a great event for someone with limited mobility who is looking to get this cache type.
September 16, 2023 – Mayfield Fort CITO X
Manassas
Join experienced CITO host, Awesnap, in Manassas for the Mayfield Fort CITO X (GCAC7X4).
Mayfield Fort Historic Site preserves one of the few remaining portions of the Civil War fortifications built to protect the vital rail junction at Manassas, Virginia. Covering 11 acres, the Mayfield Fort site is located on high ground between Buckhall and Russia Branches. Both are tributaries to the Occoquan River and strategic point between them was an ideal place for a Confederate fortification. Sadly this park is a prime dumping spot for some of this area’s more trifling citizens giving us plenty of trash to pick up each year.

Lorton
We are cleaning the park before our annual fall picnic! The Clean up the Green CITO BINGO with NoVAGO will be held in Lorton not too far from where we’ll be doing our pot luck and fundraiser auction later in the day. We will plan to split up and cover a lot of green space.
For a fun twist, complete a trash-themed BINGO card for a chance to win a geocoin.
Be sure to log your ‘Will Attend’ to let the host know your coming.
