Ready for a Great Weekend??

We know many begin their work week today, but keep in mind that with Monday’s start, the countdown towards next weekend also officially starts! Look forward to a trip to the west and a wonderful weekend of caching, eventing and socializing with fellow cachers at NoVAGO’s annual summer event!

The fun kicks off Saturday morning where early birds can catch breakfast (GC58VZB) and fuel up for a great day.  From there it’s just down the road to Sherando Park, a great 330-scenic acres where many caches await.  Hike the trails or grab your bike and set off for some fun finds.

The Lions Club Shelter will be our main base for the day.  In addition to the large shaded pavilion, there’s a playground and the lake right near by.  Sit and socialize, meet caching friends new and old, and relax from the work week.  We’ll fire up the grills around 11 and then enjoy a picnic, potluck lunch.

We’ll pause things briefly at 1 p.m. to take a NoVAGO group photo and then there will be more time free to cache, socialize and explore.  In addition to the already existing caches in Sherando Park, there will be some newly published ones as well, plus other activities to enjoy. Come 3 pm, if you need a chance to cool down, then head to Gelato Concessions (GC58JC8) and enjoy a sweet treat.

We encourage everyone to bring and share their caching to-do list and then join up with others for caching around the area.   There are many excellent, highly favorited caches and trails all around Frederick County and also in West Virginia just to the north.   For those who want to lend a hand and do a bit of hiking in true northern Virginia, DerekTiffany will also be hosting the Northern(most) Virginia CITO (GC57GJH) in the afternoon.

No matter which direction you choose to head though, definitely remember the caching fun doesn’t stop at sunset.  Certainly make plans to rejoin us at Sleepy Creek WMA that evening.  OBXGeek will lead us in Night Caching Safety (GC57ZRN) and then you won’t want to miss seeking the several great nearby night caches.  For those with plans to make it a weekend of it, Sleepy Creek does offer camping and all are welcome to join in camping the night at the event site afterwards.

Come Sunday, even though there are no official events, there are many enjoyable activities and caching all around the area.   We’ll keep a listing of proposed caches people are interested in pursuing and encourage all interested to form groups and seek some of the great hides around the area.   For instance, enjoy unique caches?  Try the Gadgets of Berkeley County Geotrail.  Enjoy hydrocaching?  Check out Lake Frederick.   Ever gone after a cache in a Cave?  Maybe you’re working on a challenge like VA’s Top Ten or perhaps just want to enjoy a geocaching Civil War tour?  Whatever you’re in most interested in, there is sure to be plenty to fill the day!

So even though we realize you might return to work next Monday a bit tired, what’s better fuel for work than a great summer weekend to look back on?  The memories should energize you, just like the excitement for what’s to come this Saturday will hopefully keep everyone going through this week.  We certainly look forward to seeing you on Saturday at NoVAGO’s Summer at Sherando!
