NoVAGO Volunteer Profiles: Officers

#volunteerspotlight

Did you know that NoVAGO is 100% run by volunteers? They are ordinary geocachers who want to give a voice for the the wider geocaching community while supporting efforts in their own Northern Virginia area. To spotlight opportunities in the org, we are running a series of job profiles between now and our “Thanks Event,” the annual volunteer appreciation lunch in January.

NoVAGO Volunteer Profiles: Officers

The NoVAGO board is made of officers and directors. They typically meet virtually once a month to discuss activities, finances, and community outreach. This volunteer job is a one year commitment and can be demanding of your time, but is also very rewarding. Officers get help from member volunteers to get projects done.

The president is in charge of all of the organization’s activities and business. They set the agenda and run the board meetings. They also help set the budget for the year.

The vice president will take over running meetings when the president is unavailable. In some years, the VP is “in training” as they plan to run for president in the following year.

The secretary takes minutes at meetings. It is up to the secretary to make sure that notes are correct and shared promptly with other officers as well as the general membership.

The treasurer in charge of all of NoVAGO’s funds and keeps timely and accurate records. They assist the president in forecasting and updating the annual budget. The treasurer also finds someone to help do an audit of the accounts every year.

The public relations officer in charge of communicating NoVAGO’s mission to its members and the greater community. This mission entails managing the website and social media. PR is often the first person to connect with outside groups as the face of NoVAGO.

Our annual officer elections take place during the month of December. A nominations and election committee is formed to make the process run smoothly. This team will be accepting nomination for officer positions during the entire month of November. Anyone wanting to self nominate may reach out to the committee. If you know someone who you think would be perfect for one of the jobs, you may also reach out. The committee will contact each person nominated to confirm their interest before they are placed on the ballot in December.
