Spotlight Cache: Catnip Scramble

#InternationalCatDay (August 8) Today we’re celebrating #InternationalCatDay by spotlighting this fun Letterbox Hybrid cache in Annandale. Catnip Scramble (GC8471C) was placed by CWillyPngn in 2019. In this fun walk through the park, geocachers will follow Jiji the black cat as he makes his way down trails, through tunnels, and even does a little waypoint projecting before finally getting to a regular sized container. Finding a Geocache on Memorial Day – or any day

Memorial Day is holiday to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. While observing Memorial Day, you might want to consider visiting one of these geocaches in Northern Virginia. Semper Fidelis Memorial Trail You will be following part of the Marine Corp Museum’s Semper Fidelis Memorial Trail – about 3/4 mile of walking – visiting statues and memorials along the way. This Werigo geocache by robbitandpaul was a 2015 NoVAGO Cache Award Winner! National Museum of the Marine Corps, Quantico. The trail is open from 9 to 9 and the museum is open 9 to 6. Fairfax County Offers Geocaching Classes for Beginners

Fairfax County Park Authority is offering opportunities to discover geocaching around the county. Participants will be with a naturalist and will learn how to operate a GPS unit as well as some of the basics of geocaching. There will be actual geocaching taking place at these events. Adventure Labs Now Have Themes

Spooky or Science… Education or Exercise… Adventure Labs® Now Have Themes Geocaching HQ has updated Adventure Lab® to give creators/owners the ability to select “themes” for their labs. There are 31 themes and owners can select up to three. Owners of Adventure Labs® should have received an e-mail letting them know how they can add these to their labs. Those who are just creating their labs, will be required to select at least one theme when they are first setting up their lab. These themes are meant to help adventurers find something to meet their mood. Want to avoid bad weather? Check for an ‘Indoor’ adventure. Want something that’s sure to be kid friendly? “Trails at the MSV Geotrail” Coming To Northern Virginia June 5

A new 12 cache geotrail is being launched in Winchester on June 5, 2021 at 10:30 am. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley has preserved 90 acres of the largest green space in the city of Winchester and it is open to the public year-round.  The MSV has more than three miles of trails for walking, running, and biking that will take cachers through fields, woods, and wetlands. Those who find them all will have an opportunity to be among the first to earn a commemorative geocoin created specifically for this collection of traditional caches.  Access to the Trails at the MSV is free. NoVAGO has decided that it is time that we make another PathTag.  So far we have made 3 tags total, but it has been awhile since we added a new one. So once again we are calling on all our talented artists to compete in designing our next tag. OLYMPIAD2020 Closing Ceremonies

  On Saturday, April 24, 2021, the Olympiad Games in Northern Virginia came to an end with a closing ceremony that ran for about two hours. Medalists from South Korea, Jamaica, and Greece met at a private ceremony held in Woodbridge, VA to receive their prizes. The nature of the Olympics shifted significantly from the original plan, and the distribution of the 50 medals had to be changed.  While there are Olympians who went above and beyond in their quest for magnets, limits had to set for real medals to one per person for the general medal hunt.  Geocachers who won a photo category received a medal and a trackable for their winning photo. The president of the NoVAGO Olympiad Committee (NOC), Zippyfinn, used her speech to praise the cacheletes from all three competing teams for their good sportsmanship, great logs, and zany cache photos.
