OLYMPIAD2020 Closing Ceremonies

  On Saturday, April 24, 2021, the Olympiad Games in Northern Virginia came to an end with a closing ceremony that ran for about two hours. Medalists from South Korea, Jamaica, and Greece met at a private ceremony held in Woodbridge, VA to receive their prizes. The nature of the Olympics shifted significantly from the original plan, and the distribution of the 50 medals had to be changed.  While there are Olympians who went above and beyond in their quest for magnets, limits had to set for real medals to one per person for the general medal hunt.  Geocachers who won a photo category received a medal and a trackable for their winning photo. The president of the NoVAGO Olympiad Committee (NOC), Zippyfinn, used her speech to praise the cacheletes from all three competing teams for their good sportsmanship, great logs, and zany cache photos. Citius – Altius – Fortius NoVAGO is pleased to announce that a new series will begin on October 24th. 15 hiders will publish Olympic caches and cachers will be able to earn a medal for their country in several ways. But first, you need a country! Country bibs (Greece / South Korea / Jamaica) will be distributed at the NoVAGO Fall Event on October 24th (https://coord.info/GC8JZYQ) with some satellite distribution points prior for those who can’t or don’t want to attend that event. Caching the Capital Region and Beyond Adventure Lab

Since 2006 the Northern Virginia Geocaching Organization has had “Caching the Capital Region and Beyond” in our crest. NoVAGO was recently awarded 10 new Adventure Labs and has opted to place them around the District of Columbia. With this latest Adventure Lab we strive to take cachers into the District to show off a few things they may have missed during past visits. During a test run of these we found that grabbing most of these easily done by those red DC Bikeshare bicycles.  None of these 10 labs require admission fees, security check points, or to go inside any buildings.  Only three of these are not available 24/7 and you can find those posted hours on the lab pages. NoVAGO want’s our community to cache with confidence and has permission for all virtual placements.
