With laptops, paper, and pens in hand it looked more like a university setting than a geocaching event.  On October 15th geocachers gathered at Bull Run Regional Library and sat at the ready to learn the basics of geocaching puzzle solving.  Since 2011 Two000miler has held 8 puzzle caching workshops throughout the Northern Virginia area.  His class today touched on substitution, playfair, bacon, vigenère, and other cyphers as well as understanding where a puzzle creator can hide clues on a cache page.  His most important advice he gives on solving puzzles is “Read the entire cache page, write down what you know, and look for patterns.” … Continue reading →

NoVAGO Puzzle Cache Workshop Sunday, October 15, 2017 (1:00-4:00 p.m.) Bull Run Regional Library 8051 Ashton Avenue Manassas, VA 20109 Having trouble with puzzle caches? There are a lot of them out there. These pesky little devils seem to get filed in one of two places by most cachers. There are them that loves ’em and them that hates ’em. If you are in the latter category (or in the former and just want to practice), this may be the event for you. This event will be geared toward beginning puzzlers. Introducing NoVAGO Spotlight Questions

On August 21, 2017 the first NoVAGO Spotlight Question was been published in the forums. Last month NoVAGO sent out an email of 5 questions to about 50 of its members old and new on 5 different topics of geocaching.  In the email it said “I am asking 5 questions and just answer with a paragraph, a few sentences, or not at all.  You can be funny (but honest), serious, scary, or whatever.  Then I will pick one question and share everyone’s answers to it in the forums.”  These “rapid quick fire questions” ranged from scary stories, to recent fantastic caches found, and police encounters while out geocaching. Hopes were that we would here from both members old and new.  Some of our members were spotlighted almost a decade ago, so this was great way to get their voices and wisdom back into the forums in a fun way. Join NoVAGO and the MGS for a Fun Summer Day!

July 8th is shaping up to be a busy day! Since they are both very close together it makes perfect sense to attend both the NoVAGO Summer CITO and the MGS for their 2017 Summer Picnic.  Both groups are looking forward to meeting up and mingling with each other.
