Save the Date: A Super Summer Weekend Ahead!

Mark your calendars!   NoVAGO is heading west this July for a super summer weekend!

Make plans now to join us on July 26 for our annual summer picnic.  This year we’ll be heading to Sherando Park, a lovely 330-acre jewel in Frederick County near Winchester, VA.  The park offers a variety of attractions including hiking trails, mountain biking, a fishing lake, playgrounds, and of course, caches!  We will gather for a picnic potluck, have some games and enjoy a summer day socializing, caching and having a great time!

In fact, to really capitalize on the trip, block out the weekend.  A variety of related events and activities are planned for Friday evening through Sunday, including night caching, camping, hydrocaching, geotrail hunts, bike rides and time to enjoy many of the great caches our western NoVAGO area has to offer.   Keep track of all the developments on the event page: GC55ZQA.

We look forward to seeing everyone on July 26th!

Splendid Springtime at Leesylvania

Get ready for a great geocaching weekend!  On April 26 and 27, NoVAGO invites to you lend a hand, picnic with friends and also celebrate the 2013 NoVAGO cache awards!

The weekend kicks off with the Neabsco Road CITO.  From 9 a.m. until noon, we will be helping clean up a portion of Neabsco Rd. near Woodbridge.   Since this weekend is Groundspeak’s 2014 CITO Weekend, everyone who logs an “attended” at a Cache In, Trash Out event earns a CITO souvenir for their Geocaching profile.  As this area is right outside Leesylvania State Park, our host for Sunday’s picnic, it will be a great way to give back to the area!

Then speaking of Leesylvania and picnicking, do return on Sunday, April 27 and join us for our annual Spring Event!   If tradition holds it should be a great afternoon of good food, fun, and friends!  We’ll be near the river at Shelter 2 where there are grills, a playground, plenty of space for caching games, and quite a few caches in the surrounding area to keep everyone busy.   Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by NoVAGO.  Bring a dish to share and plan to join the fun!

At the spring event, we’ll be announcing NoVAGO’s 2013 cache awards!  Voting is currently ongoing now through April 12th.  You can find a list of the eligible caches and voting information here.

Since spring has finally sprung, seek out fun, show up and socialize on a splendid springtime Saturday and Sunday at Leesylvania!   Hope to see you there!

2013 NoVAGO Cache Awards: Nominations

What were your favorite caches of 2013?   Which ones brought you to awesome spots?  Which dazzled you with their creativity?  Which ones made you want to pull your hair out in frustration perhaps from a tricky puzzle or devious hide?  Maybe it was a cache that allowed you to learn something new?  Or maybe one that tested your physical limits?  Was it a traditional?  A well-thought out multi?  An amazing puzzle?  Gather all those memorable caches together and nominate them for the 2013 NoVAGO Cache Awards!

Every year, the NoVAGO community nominates and selects the best caches hidden the year before.  It provides an opportunity for area cachers to help recognize those that make caching in Northern Virginia a great experience and also provides a terrific way to highlight caches worth making a detour for.

You can find information on the award categories & eligible caches on this forum thread:  NoVAGO’s 2013 Geocache Awards.

Nominations are currently open and all are encouraged to send in their lists of memorable caches!   Once nominations close on March 15, we’ll pull together the ballot, voting will open, and then winners will be announced at NoVAGO’s Spring Event in late April.  There is no limit to the number of caches you can nominate for each category and either via email or this form, nominations are easy to submit.

Don’t let your most memorable caches get overlooked:  send in your nominations today!  🙂

Fall Fling Festivities

fall novago logoThe countdown is underway … 5 Days until NoVAGO’s Fall Fling Event.

We will be gathering at Lake Fairfax for friendship, food and festivities.

PLEASE let us know how many will be attending as NoVAGO will be supplying burgers and dogs. We will also supply the buns, plates and utensils and charcoal for cooking. In your will attend note, please list the pot luck item you are bringing so we can judge what might be needed and not end up with a table full of one item.

We are all looking forward to a good time … Weather should be awesome and the location can’t be beat.

The event starts around 10ish with a meet and greet and ice breaker followed by caching in the park and lunch … We are planning a couple games and side events to add to the festivities and as usual will have a few door prizes to hand out.

Hope to see everyone there …
