Description: Like a good walk? Enjoy exploring the forests, mountains and trails? Here is the popular Occoquan and Potomac Trailmasters series redux except using trails and caches along the Shenandoah and the surrounding Mountains.

Calling all Mountain Trailmasters to meet with fellow hiking enthusiasts. Enjoy a chance to talk to others about some of the great caches, hikes and experiences you have had while walking the parks and trails in the foothills of the Appalachians.

There are many trails along the foothills of the Appalachians including Sky Meadows, Wildcat Mountain, Shenandoah, and the George Washington Forest These parks and caches overlook the trade routes of Native Americans and early settlers, were surveyed by George Washington, bore witness to epic battles of the American Civil War and now serve as an area of beauty and escape for the Trailmasters. How many of these trails and parks do you know? We have assigned a subjective (and arbitrary) point value to each of the caches in this general area. Can you get 50 points before the event? 100 points? How many do you have now?

Description: If you missed the last CITO we hosted, this is your chance to come visit another gem of an area accessed by the Bull Run/Occoquan “Blue” Trail. We will meet at the posted coordinates, chat for a few minutes, and then head out on the trail for a few hours of cleanup. We will convene back at parking and have some refreshments.

FCPA/NoVAGO “60 Years of Parks” Geocoins

The Director of the Fairfax County Parks Services Division has given me a number of FCPA/NoVAGO geocoins to place in geocaches throughout the county. If you would like to assist in placing some of the coins…please contact me either through my Profile, PM from the Forums, or e-mail. We can coordinate how to get the coins to you. The coins were produced as a joint venture between the Fairfax County Park Authority and NoVAGO, and celebrate Fairfax County’s “60 Years of Parks”.

Description: Our Event: W&OD Two Creek Trail Hike

This 19-acre site is located near mile marker 30 of the W&OD Trail between Goose and Sycolin creeks. A one-mile walking and equestrian trail winds around the park’s perimeter, providing views of Goose Creek’s largely untouched forested banks.

The trail is shaded by woods for about ¾ of way and there are plenty of opportunities for cooling hot feet in a cool creek. However, STRONG bug repellent highly recommended. There are ticks. Parts of the trail were mowed this week!

The area has two picnic tables were we can share HEALTHY snacks. Be sure to bring water and bug repellent.

Description: Healthy Barbecue – Make Your Own Kabobs!
As with other NoVAGO picnic events, we will be having a potluck meal. It is hoped that the event attendees will bring something to add to the meal.

In an effort to reach our Geocaching Diet goals we are going to try to eat better at these events! We would like to set up “Make Your Own Kabobs” potluck tables for these events. Kabobs (or Kebobs) are pieces of meat, poultry, fish and/or vegetables, threaded onto skewers and grilled. Yummy!
