Coyote Warning

Postby pirate_rat » Fri Aug 03, 2012 4:37 pm

Daniel's Run park just had an incident where three coyotes attacked an off-leash dog.
The owner was walking and playing with the dog on the trails. It went into the woods
after a ball and came back with bites.

Let's be careful out there.
Out of my mind. Back in 5 minutes.

We're on our annual summer vacation to Fishers Island, NY. Coyotes have managed to make the swim over from the Connecticut mainland and have established at least two colonies. The Community Bulletin Board by the Post Office has a number of notices about missing cats. Needless to say we keep Louis the Cachehund on a close leash when we're out walking at night...

For the Daniels Run incident, how did they know it was three coyotes if the dog was attacked in the woods? Was it based on others seeing the coyotes in the area?

:liar:  PR -- nice observation.

I just returned from a short trip to NC last week, where the coyotes have migrated into Western NC over the last decade or so. I was told that the state has recently updated its hunting laws to permit licensed hunters to hunt coyote year round, day and night.
