CachingTree - The Geocaching Family Tree

Postby dudleygrunt » Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:49 am

Can you trace your geocaching heritage all the way back to the beginning when Dave Ulmer placed the first cache? Submit your information, then visit the results page to find out!

The Caching Tree is a project to create a geocaching family tree, based on who has introduced whom to geocaching. Stop by and add your info. It only takes a moment and no registration is required. I added my name last night during the Geoaching Podcast.

I heard about Geocaching on BBC Digital Planet - twice. After the second report, I figured I had to try it. I think the Beeb did a report on how school teachers were using it to teach students geography. Not sure if the Beeb fits within a family tree.

Yeah, the site allows or specific organizations, media, or other "non persons" to be listed and included.

I did it. But I don't know if I'll fit into the big tree or not. The people that introduced me, were introduced by an unknown Nova Scotian.

The Unknown Nova Scotian? I think he's the mystery man that got half of Canada caching.

Seriously, I'm sure there are plenty of people who can't trace themselves back too far, but you at least have a parent and likely siblings and children.

Dan from Caching Tree is going to attempt to join us on Monday's Navicache Chat Room session. (8/2, 9-11pm ET). He's interested in, but not very familiar with the "alternate" caching sites and would like the pick the brains of some of us.

Generally, there are just 3 us who get together every couple weeks on their chat room, but I'm trying to promote it to others, this time. Even if you're not an NC user, you can create a separate log-in just for the room.

Check this thread for info on joining, whether you use any of the other sites or are just interested in maybe learning more about them, too.
