URGENT!!! Geomate Jr. Lanyard

Postby mrsbocco » Sun Jul 25, 2010 10:34 pm

If you have child caching with a Geomate Jr. you may want to check the lanyard. The lanyard that came with our grandson's Geomate is not a breakaway safety lanyard and his dad has removed it until he can get a replacement.

Yesterday we were out caching and our three year old grandson was proudly wearing his Geomate gps. When we were getting out of the truck at a cache he had unbuckled the top part of his carseat and I undid the bottom. As he usually does, he jumped out of the carseat and got ready to jump down to the ground. He put one foot out and then cried "Granny, I'm stuck". He had the lanyard twisted around the carseat strap and it was pulling tight on his neck.

Fortunately, I was standing right there, so no harm was done, but it was very frightening. He was wearing the lanyard that comes with the Geomate. If the lanyard had been of the breakaway type it would have come apart and the situation would not have happened.

Thank you so much for posting this...parents (and Grandparents) of young cachers...please heed!

I took the liberty of editing the topic title to include the word "URGENT"...hope you don't mind. At the wrong place, and wrong time...this could lead
to a serious injury...or worse!

I'm so glad you were standing right there when your grandson got "tangled up"........whew.

Perhaps an email to the manufacturer is in order? They seem to market this GPSr towards the kids so they should make it child safe.
